5 Steps to Creating a Social Media Strategy

It's so easy to become overwhelmed with social media. Which platforms should my business be on? Who is my target audience? How often should I post? What should I post? Like anything, planning makes perfect and there are ways to lighten the load when it comes to social media.

Here are some key steps to creating a social media strategy that will make planning so much easier for you and your team.

Step 1: Set Your Goals

Figure out why you're using social media in the first place. Is it to create awareness within your local community? Or are you launching an online store and need to generate leads and increase sales? You can have more than one goal but start on one and go from there.

Step 2: Research and identify your audience

Who is your target audience? What are their interests and hobbies and where are they based? Take a look at your social platform's insights data and find out who your main audience is.

Step 3: Create a content plan

Based on what your target audience looks like, this should be relatively simple. What do they want to see? How often do they want to see it? Create engaging, interesting and regular content and don't be afraid to mix things up.

Step 4: Engage with your community

This one is important! Grow your account organically by engaging with your community and fostering relationships with your audience. Respond to comments, use open ended questions when posting and include your audience in your content.

Step 5: Analyse and improve

Track your performance and be aware of how your audience is responding to your content. Are people liking video content more than just images? Are your reels receiving a lot of views? Are you getting more engagement when you post on a certain day or time? Tweak and adjust accordingly and don't be afraid to experiment.
